FWHA Season
FWHA hosts annual league play during the fall, winter, and spring seasons. This league is appropriate for female players of all skill levels.
Ages
Women 18+
When
The season runs from mid September through late March. Tournaments, skills clinics, and other events take place during the summer months or holidays.
Where
Most FWHA events take place at the UAF Patty Center or Big Dipper Ice Arenas. Occasionally we may have ice at the Carlson Center or Polar Ice Center.
Practices
No practices are required! We encourage teams to organize their own practices. FWHA organizes at least one skill clinic for players and goalies during the year.
Games
League games are played on Sunday afternoons between noon and 7 pm.
During the End of Season Tournament, games may take place during weekend days or evenings, or weeknights.
Jerseys
A team jersey will be provided to you at your first game. Please return the jersey at the end of the season to avoid being charged a replacement fee.
END OF SEASON TOURNAMENT
Your league fees include an End of Season Tournament that is played at the completion of regular season play. The tournament will be double-elimination or round robin. All teams participate in this tournament.
REQUIRED GEAR
FWHA requires play in full gear. You must have a helmet in good condition (working straps) with a full face mask. We also recommend a mouth guard and a neck guard.
Frequently Asked Questions
I know nothing about hockey, can I play?
Yes! We have players of all skill and knowledge levels in our league. We encourage you to go out and learn some skating basics and sign up for the league. More experienced players will help mentor you!
How will I know which team I am on?
After the registration deadline and about a week before the first game, there will be a draft where players will be assigned to teams. You will then receive an email with your team name and first game time/place. Please see DRAFT FAQS for more information.
Can I play with my friend?
During registration you will have an opportunity to request another player to play with. The FWHA board will make every effort to make sure you get to play with your friend provided you sign up for the full season and the request is reciprocal. Please get your friend to request your name too! But don't worry, this league is a great place to make new friends!
2024-2025 Season

If you are a skater or goalie interested in playing in the FWHA, please go through the registration process and sign up on the wait list. If spots open up, we will reach out to players on the waitlist in the order that they signed up. You may also register for the SUB List (no cost unless you play). This registration is for the 2024/2025 FWHA season. We will have 12 teams with 12-14 players each and a goalie. Cost is $375 for the full season and $200 for half season. There will be 22 games (each team plays each other team twice) and an end of season tournament.
The regular season will take place Sept 15, 2024 through March 9, 2025. The tournament will take place from March 11-22, 2025.
