New to Hockey?
A little info to help during your first year...
We are so excited you have chosen to play women's hockey!!!
We want to make sure your first year is FUN!! Therefore, we have some information that may be helpful as you register and play during your first year.
Please remember that hockey consists of many skills that build on one another as the years go by. Yup..that's right..years! It takes time to learn this sport and you can't expect to be an expert out there your first year of playing. We were all new players at one point in our lives. The more experienced players on your team know you are new and are here to offer suggestions and encouragement. Our members are nice ladies who come from all walks of life. Please do not beat yourself up if you are not the best player on the ice! Your only job this year is to go out there and have a great time!!
Typically, each team has at least 1 or 2 new players on their roster. If you have a friend who has talked you into playing (good for that friend!!) you can request to play on the same team as your friend. Although we can't guarantee it, we will do our best to make sure that you play with them (hot tip - have them request to play with you too!).
If you have any questions or concerns during the year, PLEASE talk to a board member. We will keep information in confidence if asked to. The last thing we want is for a new player to have a miserable year and quit without a chance to make things better.
League Information
- You will be assigned a jersey. Do not lose it. Jerseys cost money and we do not want to hunt you down to return it....
- We schedule our whole season at the beginning, and we'll have it available to the league within the first few weeks.
- We do not have a formal system for team practices. Some teams will practice. It is up to that team to put together the practice and pay for the ice. Many teams may practice with each other. All you have to do is ask!
- Some teams have coaches. Coaches are volunteers.
- The games are an hour long.
- There are refs and scorekeepers at the games and we do keep track of stats (how many goals or assists) just for FUN!
- Each team is assigned a team rep.
- The league has general membership meetings where we can voice concerns and vote.
- There is a tournament at the end of the season (included in the registration price).
- There is a banquet in the spring (not included in the registration price).
- There will be team pictures taken during the season.
- Communication between the board and players is via e-mail, this web site, and Facebook. Keep tabs so you don't miss out on fun opportunities sent out to the league.
