Player Assessment
The player self-assessment will be used help the league create teams that are balanced in skill level. Players may a blend of two different levels. We use this assessment during league and tournament sign-ups.
E) Beginner.
Player is new to the sport, and still learning how to put pads on. This player will need lots of support from her team on basic skating technique, and game rules. This player uses their stick to help prop themselves up, and therefore struggles to catch a pass. This player does not know how to stop, and likes to make large turns instead. Everyone started here, at one point or another!
D) Novice.
This player still has difficulty shooting, passing, and stopping. This player has some idea of the rules and general positions. This player isn’t very comfortable skating backwards, and struggles to do forward crossovers. This player stick handles at a leisurely pace, with their head down.
C) Intermediate C.
This player understands most of the rules, can stop, and skate backwards fairly well. Player can do forward crossovers, and whack the puck hard. They can shoot, but generally not lift or backhand the puck. This level player is not able to lead a break out, but good about dumping the puck into the zone.
B) Intermediate B.
Player can skate fairly well with the puck, and can make some plays. This individual can lift the puck, and sometimes backhand the puck. They are able to do crossovers frontward and backwards, and are able to stop in all directions. Player can pass and shoot the puck on target, and is good about taking a look around. Player understands the game, but not necessarily the subtleties.
A) Advanced.
Player is able to skate fast in all directions, with good puck control. This player can initiate breakouts, and has a solid understanding of the game. This player is able to play all positions, however may have to look down occasionally when holding the puck. This player is in good physical shape, and can play the whole game at the same intensity. Players at this level may opt to take a shot, verse making a difficult pass to a teammate. This player can use their skates to direct the puck.
A+) Sniper.
This individual either played in competitive hockey programs, or at the college level. This player stands out. This skater is agile, fast, and consistently keeps their head up. This player anticipates the plays, sets up teammates consistently and effectively, and is a team leader. This skater can do everything well, and could easily make a hat-trick (if pushed to do so). Players at this level should strive to earn assists, verse personal goals.
